I’ve been using the TCX RT-Race boots for many months now and they’re one of the best value- for-money race boots out there. My only issue with them was a lack of ventilation – and that’s where the RT-Race Pro Air model you see here, comes in. This is at the top of the TCX line-up and it’s effectively the same boot used by racing stars like Johann Zarco, Sam Lowes and Brad Binder.
The RT-Race Pro Air is based on the standard RT-Race but it brings some premium additions in the form of magnesium sliders that replace the regular boot’s polyurethane sliders on the toe and heel counter. Another big addition comes in the form of the new Michelin Burnout sole. This sole uses a dual compound structure and gets a detailed design inspired by the Powersport Evo tyre. This aims to increase grip and control, while also improving durability and abrasion resistance. While I had no complaints with the standard boot’s sole, the new one feels even more grippy, particularly on wet surfaces. And finally, as the name suggests, the microfibre material (faux leather; TCX doesn’t claim it to be otherwise either) is perforated, which helps brings some welcome ventilation on hot days at the track.
The rest is familiar with the same external flex control system which prevents hyperextension of the ankle in a crash situation. A ratcheted closure system with a secure metal clasp helps fine-tune the top of the boot around the rider’s calf and the fit is further secured through an inner bootie that laces up via an easy drawstring system. All-day comfort on the street is reasonable, but I find that the gaiter at the top tends to feel rough on the skin after a few hours, if you wear your pants over the boots. On the track, the boots feel superbly secure and tactile.
The RT-Race Pro Air brings some expensive goodies and, as a result, the price goes up enormously; the Pro Air is a huge Rs 14,500 more than the standard RT-Race. This may be okay for those who appreciate having the best there is, but if the price is too high for you, the standard RT-Race offers almost the same protection scheme and makes for great value if you’re looking for high-speed road or race track safety.

American motorcycle brand Cleveland CycleWerks made its debut in India at the 2018 Auto Expo with a plan to start operations by June 2018. However, it has now announced (on Twitter) that the launch has been pushed to October 2018. Cleveland hasn’t given any reasoning for the delay; but we suspect the lack of a suitably set-up dealership network has deferred the launch. The American brand has partnered with Hyderabad-based Laish-Madison Motor Werks for production and distribution in India. At Auto Expo 2018, the company shared that the motorcycles launched in India will be imported as CKD kits from China and will be assembled at the bike maker's Pune facility.
Cleveland had showcased four new models for the Indian market – Misfit, Ace Deluxe, Ace Scrambler and Ace Cafe. Of the four motorcycles, the Cleveland Misfit is the most interesting looking motorcycle with its cafe racer styling. It is powered by a 229cc; single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a power output of 15.4hp at 7,000rpm, and its peak torque of 16Nm arrives at 6,000rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The Misfit employs a tubular, steel-backbone-type dual-cradle frame, which is suspended on a USD fork and twin shock absorbers at the rear. It employs 18-inch steel spoke wheels on both ends which are wrapped with a 100/90 section tyre at the front and a 120/90 section tyre at the rear. The Misfit gets a 320mm disc with a four-piston radial mount caliper at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. It gets a 15-litre fuel tank and it tips the scale at 144kg (kerb weight).
The Ace range is more conventional in comparison to the Misfit, but is offered in three different body styles. The powertrain on the Ace range is similar to the one found on the Misfit. The Ace range features a square-section single-downtube frame. The Ace Cafe 250 and Deluxe 250 sport USD forks, while the Ace Scrambler 250 has been equipped with a conventional telescopic fork. Twin shock-absorbers at the back remain common for all the three Ace motorcycles. While the Ace Cafe 250 and Deluxe 250 run on 17-inch aluminium spoke wheels at either end, the Ace Scrambler gets 18-inch aluminium rims. Braking hardware consists of a single 298mm disc with twin-piston callipers at the front, and a 210mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear, for all the Ace models. All three Ace models feature a 14-litre fuel tank and have a similar kerb weight of 133kg.
Cleveland CycleWerks plans to sell 5,000 units in India by 2019 and the Ace range and Misfit are expected to be priced between Rs 2-2.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Watch this space for more updates. [...]

Luxury sportscar manufacturer, Ferrari, has filed a patent with the European Patent Office for a new Targa removable roof system. This 'Targa Top' design could signal a potential return to the body style for the Italian carmaker after a 20-year hiatus.
The patent application refers to “a car with a ‘Targa Top’ body” that features a “coupé body with a rigid roof that is removable and is supported at the front by the upright of the windshield and at the rear by a robust, full-width roll bar”.
The Targa top style that Ferrari refers to is similar to that currently used by Porsche on the 911, but the new patent refers to the specific design and engineering involved. It proposes decreasing the aerodynamic turbulence associated with Targa tops by increasing the height of the windscreen upright, with a possible false insert that is installed when the roof is removed.
Ferrari claims that a Targa-style production car of its design would be “free from the aforementioned drawbacks” as well as being “easy and inexpensive to manufacture.”
Although it’s not known yet whether an existing Ferrari model will benefit from the new removable roof design, the patent drawings illustrate an old F430 for reference. That mid-engined V8 model is a predecessor to the 488 GTB.
The 355 GTS from the 1995-1999 time period was the last Targa-style Ferrari in mass production, although limited-run models such as the 575 Superamerica and LaFerrari Aperta were produced in small quantities since that car. A Targa-topped 488 would sit alongside the existing GTB and Spider convertible in the range, expanding a line-up that makes up a significant proportion of Ferrari’s annual sales.

Hyundai revealed its Le Fil Rouge concept car at the Geneva motor show as the blueprint for the brand's future design direction.
The new theme, named Sensuous Sportiness and was first applied to the Kona, Nexo and Santa Fe SUVs which came with 'cascading' grilles and wide bonnets. The design theme is claimed to exhibit harmonised proportion, architecture, styling, and technology.
“Our goal is to build Hyundai into a beloved brand by creating vehicles with heightened emotional value," said the company's head of styling, Sang Yup Lee.
Le Fil Rouge translates from French to 'common thread' and the concept's design is said to reflect
Hyundai’s belief that the brand’s past, present and future designs are all connected. "The concept is a reinterpretation of Hyundai’s design DNA that originated from the Coupé concept of 1974,” said Luc Donckerwolke, head of design. This wedge-shaped car was penned by Italdesign and previewed Hyundai's first-ever model, the Pony.
The integrated pillars and swept look of the Le Fil Rouge, along with the long wheelbase and short overhangs, are said to imbue the five-door coupé with a 'dynamic' look.
Hyundai describes the frame of the interior as a 'tube architecture' that reflects the exterior profile of the car. The company claims the car's four-seat cabin is designed to give a calm, spacious and comfortable travel environment, with ample legroom for passengers, and a driver's seat that's optimised for ergonomics.
Features on the concept include an aviation-inspired two-way air- conditioning system and trims made from revitalised wood. Infotainment duties are handled by a panoramic display with haptic feedback for the driver, while rear passengers each get a touchscreen.
The interior is divided by a 'floating' wrap-around central console that extends from the dashboard back to the rear seat bench, like in the new Range Rover SV Coupé.
Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness theme takes over from Fluid Sculpture, which was introduced with the Sonata sedan in 2009.
